Lucy

Time for another name, although I don't think that I'll actually post this often later on....anyway, here it is:

Lucy
-meaning: light
-origin: Latin
-potential nicknames: Luce

I haven't found many people that love this name like I do, but there are some out there!  Lucy is a sweet name and I immediately think of the very sweet Lucy Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia series. You might also think of Lucille Ball and the days of  "I Love Lucy".  The name is fairly popular, sitting just below the top 100 mark on the US popularity lists, with its peak popularity being in the early 1900s.

Arabella

I'll kick off the names with my daughter's name:

Arabella
-meaning: beautiful altar
-origin: Latin
-potential nicknames: Ari, Aria, Bella, Belle, Ella

Arabella is a literary name.  Dickens used it in one of  his novels, as well as Thomas Hardy (Jude the Obscure). It is also the name of an opera.  This is what drew me to the name.  I also love the nickname possibilities with this name.  Another nice quality of the name is that it isn't wildly popular.  It sits in the 600 range on the top 1000 names in the US.  This is the most popular the name has been in the history of the US SSA name lists.

Why Names?

One of my favorite things to do is browse baby names.  It has grown from a once in a while hobby to a mild obsession and its growing still!  There's just something so amazing to me about a person's name.  Sometimes there's no particular reason behind the choice, but more often than not there is and I love hearing about it!

This led me to buy many name books.  With these books, I compile lists of names I like and write down why I like them, their meaning, how popular they are, and other facts that interest me.  I am writing this blog to indulge my hobby.  Whether you are looking for names yourself or just interested as I am, I hope you enjoy!  Feel free to comment on any of my choices, good or bad.  I welcome the input!
